Wineries and Distilleries

From the founding of DeVilliers and Hulme the company has undertaken more than 150 commissions for new wineries, or alterations to existing ones.

These have ranged from a small 18 ton winery to an 8000 ton winery.

DeVilliers and Hulme also undertakes commissions for the Process Design of wine cellars including effluent treatment.
With this experience we are undoubtedly the leaders in the wine cellar and general winery field.

The design of continuous distillation and pot still distillation facilities for brandy also form part of our portfolio.

Specialised Projects

Examples of our management expertise of multi-services buildings, besides the multitude of wineries, are:

  • The Glass House at Kirstenbosch
  • The Rupert Art Museum in Stellenbosch
  • The Apartheid Museum in Port Elizabeth.

We believe we add value to the end product by thinking laterally during the design process to ensure the sympathetic accommodation of the necessary services.

Property Development

De Villiers & Hulme have on various occasions ventured into the realm of property development. From the experience thus gained, we further add value to commercial projects by understanding the realities of cash flow and profit motive, critical time deadlines and quality assurance.
This understanding is transformed into appropriate design, i.e. pre-casting some elements or use of steel instead of concrete.

Project Management

DeVilliers & Hulme are often called in to take on the responsibility for driving projects to ensure their timeous completion, within budget and to the expected quality standard.
We have the qualified personnel with the relevant experience and expertise to make this happen.
Typically this would involve some or all of the following.

Project and scope definition.
Management and coordination of human resources and communications.
Setting achievable time and budget constraints and managing these as well as risk. Identification and management.
